Eureka’s Masters of Cinema Series on Sale
Mar 29th
Eureka is currently having a sale on their Masters of Cinema series. Most titles are around £8.99, with free international shipping, can’t beat that! Luckily I caught this sale (today is the last day) I’ve slowly importing some of their titles since I bought a region free dvd player last year, and it’s has definitely been worth it. Today I picked up Kaneto Shindo’s The Naked Island and Kuroneko. I have another Shindo title Onibaba, which is excellent by the way. If you haven’t taken a look at any Masters of Cinema titles you should, they are absolutely exceptional; the quality of the transfer, the extraordinary amount of supplemental features, amazing dvd production, multiple essays and interviews in the booklet inserts, and clear cases.

Official Digg App / iPad Give Away
Mar 25th

Digg just announced the release of the official iPhone app. It appears to be very clean and well developed (and most importantly, free, as opposed to the others I’ve purchased). It has very nice drop down menus for stories, with digg up and digg down buttons. I have used diggle in the past but didn’t like very much. After using diggle briefly I switched to diggit, it was better but it still didn’t make me want to use. This official app, on the other hand, is more user friendly and intuitive.
In other news, digg and taptaptap are giving away 14 iPads to celebrate the release of the official digg app. Simply go to http://digg.taptaptap.com/ and follow @taptaptap on twitter, and retweet the message. At first I was a bit reserved about the iPad, given the very few apps shown, but I think there is real potential in this device. Just look at what became of iPhones, apps weren’t much of anything when it was first released but they later became the reason you buy an iPhone. Let’s see what happens with the iPad in six months; I think it will be amazing.
New Blu and DVD Purchases This Week
Mar 24th

I recently picked up Blu Ray editions of The Shining and Wizard of Oz. This expands my Kubrick Blu Ray to four total; 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket. An interesting note I recently learned about Full Metal Jacket was Kubrick’s intention for the main character Joker; it originally wasn’t Matthew Modine, the part had been offered to Anthony Michael Hall, he had to decline due scheduling conflicts… now that would have been interesting. Other DVD purchases this week; American Gangster and Lost Days.
hobinator dot com is back!

I’ve been meaning to start the blog back up for awhile, but I was unsure of its use these days with Twitter being so popular. I started using Twitter about a year ago, and much like the many blogs I’ve had I don’t post on there very often. However, I do enjoy writing a blog, and I had one in some form or another since 2003. Let’s see what comes of this.
Also, if drawing a school, the best method would be to draw a building, and at the top write ’school,’ that method has always worked out best for me.
